It’s quite exciting to finally have a home for Sakmat — a place that brings together her story, the songs, the music, and whatever comes next.
Music has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember.
Yes, I’m from the generation that recorded songs from the radio onto cassette tape — usually hoping the announcer wouldn’t talk over the ending.
I played vinyl long before CDs were thought of, carried a Walkman and a precious collection of tapes wherever I went, and knew exactly which song was coming next from the first crackle of the record.
I grew up on Elvis, The Beatles, Queen, ABBA, Daddy Cool, Black Sabbath, Cher and so much more.
My musical tastes have always wandered happily across genres, but my heart inevitably comes home to rock.
The devil’s horns are strong within me. 🤘
So, what’s coming to Sakmat?
Plenty.
There will be big, theatrical rock, including the kind of sweeping rock operas that owe a little of their soul to the great productions of the 1970s and ’80s.
There’ll be that beautiful, powerful mezzo/soprano voice at the centre of it all.
There’ll be ballads.
There may even be a little pop wandering through the door when nobody is looking.
And, of course, there will be songs that have something to say.
Behind the music, I’m also continuing to learn more about the engineering, mixing and mastering side of creating and releasing music. That journey — successes, mistakes, discoveries and all — will become part of what I share here.
Sakmat songs are heading to the streaming platforms, with the first single release beginning this weekend.
That adventure alone should provide plenty of fodder for stories, posts and discussions: creating the music, preparing a release, distribution, mastering, artwork, promotion and everything I discover along the way.
Which brings me to The Sakmat Signal.
Music. Meaning. Making.
I don’t want it to be just another newsletter arriving because a calendar says it’s Tuesday.
I want The Sakmat Signal to be a pathway into the music.
A place for the songs and the stories behind them.
For works in progress.
For experiments.
For the things I’m learning.
For thoughts that might eventually become lyrics.
And for those wonderful moments when an idea that begins as little more than a spark suddenly becomes music.
The Sakmat website is only just beginning.
So is the Signal.
And there is a lot more music to come.
